about

The words to this song are by the Sufi mystic Baba Bulleh Shah who lived about 300 years ago in the Punjab, a region now belonging to Pakistan.

Sufis are masters in "saying that which cannot be said" in such a beautiful and poetic way that the words go straight to one's heart.

Bulleh Shah is so in love with the divine that he sings: “Aashik Bina Na Samjhe Kor!” (Only a lover really knows what beauty is!). He expresses his love for his spiritual master with this praise: “Meraa mujhme kuch bi nahi, jo kuch bi hai so hai tera!” (All that I have came through you, without you I am nothing!)
