about

On A Deeper Light (coming April 23rd from White Swan), Deva Premal & Miten intertwine their trademark Sanskrit mantras with sensual, dub-inspired grooves. Yoga’s number one chanteuse lends her distinctive vibrato to the hypnotic vibe, heightening the inherent power of the sacred chants she sensually intones.

Miten and co-producers Joby Baker and Maneesh de Moor went for a very warm, organic sound, requiring the artist’s to take a new approach. Rather than weeks of solo sessions and bouncing tracks back and forth via the internet, all of the musicians (Miten, Premal, keyboardist de Moor and bansuri maestro Manose) spent two weeks together in Baker’s intimate Vancouver Island studio, working as a group in real time on every track to get a sound and a vibe that was much more live than studied.

“We wanted to create a natural feel," Miten explains. "No digitally programmed or processed instruments, healthy on the ears and the heart. Everything ‘moved air’ –- and that’s what makes the music breathe.” Adds Deva, " It has a warmth and a simplicity to it -- it’s my favorite album so far.”

“We’ve always wanted to do a tantric-mantra dub album,” says Miten, and indeed, this refreshing new work brings a vibrant, sensual energy to the world’s oldest devotional music – and presents a fresh direction for the enduringly popular artists. In these turbulent times, Deva and Miten’s chilled out Sanskrit chants offer something of a musical balm to calm the nerves and nourish the tortured spirit.

JOIN DEVA PREMAL & MITEN ON A
FREE 21-DAY MANTRA MEDITATION JOURNEY

Explore the transformational power of a daily mantra meditation practice with Deva Premal & Miten by joining their free 21-Day Mantra Meditation Journey starting April 23.

Mantras are energetic sound formulas, created thousands of years ago by the rishis (wise men) of ancient India, who understood the power of sound as a pathway to enlightenment. On this three-week journey, Deva & Miten will share a new mantra each day, explaining its meaning, chanting it with you and meditating on the mantra’s essential energetic quality.

A full 21 days provides the possibility for real and lasting change to occur, in body, mind and spirit. Find out more about the program and register here: tinyurl.com/21daymantra.
